Welkomstbrief nieuwe volleyballers

Teamindeling

Welcome letter for new joiners

A warm welcome on behalf of all members of Sports Club Lunetten (SVL) and especially on behalf of the board: Janine Bolt (chair), Maren Peters (competition secretary), Hans Peters (treasurer), and Eveline Wit (secretary). How great that you have become a member of our club! In this letter, we will tell you more about your membership and other everyday matters.

Playing level and training participation

You’ve now trained with us three times and have become a member for this season, welcome! Together with the coach and/or the board, we’ll evaluate at the end of the season whether your starting level and/or ability to learn is enough to remain a member after this season. The board keeps in touch with the coaches about the level of new members and will inform you if necessary.

SVL is a recreational volleyball club and not a beginner’s class. We do spend some time training new people, but we want all members to have a sufficient grasp of the basic volleyball techniques and also to (learn to) know the positions on the court. This means that only people who can keep up adequately in matches can remain members of our club.

If you find playing matches still difficult, use this season to understand the positions and improve your basic skills. Come to training every week, study our playing system at home – we have a PowerPoint from the club that explains the usual playing positions – and try to practice in your favorite position during matches. We’re happy to help you.

If your basic level and knowledge of the positions aren’t sufficient by the end of the season, someone from the board or the coaches will let you know before the current season ends. We’ll then evaluate your membership.

Membership Fees

The current membership fees are listed on our website. You pay a basic amount for membership, which includes one training night. If you train a second or even a third evening, it costs extra per year. If you also play in the Nevobo competition, you must pay Nevobo membership fees. Note: if you do not want to remain a member next season, you must cancel your membership before June 1 of the current season by sending an email to our secretary.

Recreational Competition

SVL currently has six teams participating in the recreational competition of the Dutch Volleyball Association (Nevobo) in the Mid-West region. Each team plays a tournament day, six times a year on a Saturday. On each match day, a team plays four matches of two times 12 minutes. SVL currently has five mixed teams and one men’s team, spread across different levels. A team usually consists of six to eight members.

Team Composition

The teams basically decide their own composition. At the beginning of each year, the board sends all members a survey asking about their wishes and preferences for the upcoming season. For example, members can indicate whether they want to play in a (new) team, stay with their current team, play at a different level, or even stop competing.

Based on this inventory, we try to map out the wishes of the members and teams as best as possible. The board supports the teams in finding a suitable composition. At the end of the current season, the teams are evaluated, and the lineup for the new season is made.

It is sometimes also possible to join a team or play as a substitute during the season, depending on available spots and the needs of the teams. Even as a substitute, you then pay the full Nevobo membership.

Practical matters

  • Clothing. You can train in whatever you like, knee pads are useful.
  • Competition. shirts Teams that play in competitions all wear the same shirt with our logo, often in different colors. You buy your own T-shirt. The shirts can be tried on and ordered at Yourstyle (https://www.yourstyle.nl/) on Voorstraat, they have our logo in their system. The men’s shirt has code JC001 and the women’s JC005.
  • Training times and place. The training sessions are weekly throughout the indoor volleyball season: from late August/early September to the end of May. In June/July, the training evenings are used to wrap up the season in tournament form. The regular training groups are then mixed to create surprising team combinations.
  • Don’t leave valuable items in the locker rooms.
